Internet impact is a relatively new field of academic inquiry. Empirical studies suggest that the negative impact especially with respect to internet addiction, like other well researched addictive behaviours, has an effect on many aspects of a person’s life, including academic/work performance, relationships, and physical and mental health Evidence of negative impact of internet has been suggested by the findings that some Internet users spend increasingly longer periods of time online and experience withdrawal symptoms when offline. Those preoccupied with Internet-related activities may neglect exercise, family and social activities. The study was descriptive in nature using questionnaire to gather information from the respondents. The study was carried out in Gwagwalada Area Council of Federal capital territory, Abuja. The population for the study was 5068 senior secondary school in Gwagwalada Area Council. The sample was 135. The instruments for this study were face-validated by five experts in Computer Science all from the University of Abuja, Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory. The reliability of the instrument was found 0.78 using Cronbach Alpha formula. Descriptive statistics using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) were conducted on the quantitative data. The non-parametric procedures including, Chi square, Mann-Whitney test and Kruskal-Willis test, were employed as the data of this study was not normally distributed. This study has contributed to the international literature on negative impact of internet especially with respect to Internet Addiction by indentifying intervention strategies recommended by the students that may help minimise harm caused by IA.
