The use of performance appraisal in any organization is compelling because it enables the management to measure and improve the performance of the employees. However, the continuous poor performance of the public sector employees put in doubt if its usage has been able to achieve its objectives. in the light of this, the study interrogated the extent to which performance appraisal has engendered employee’s productivity in the public sector using Eti- Osa Local Government as a Study. It adopted descriptive and quantitative survey design method. The study population was 820 and a stratified sample size of 320 which was determined through Taro Yamani. 320 copies of questionnaire were administered and 270 were collected back and use for the purpose of this study. Pearson Correlation Analysis was use to test the hypotheses. All the data were computer processed through the use of Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings of the study revealed that: there is significant relationship between performance appraisal and employees’ productivity; performance appraisal feedback has effect on employee’s productivity; performance appraisal positively affects the attitude of employee toward work and that performanceappraisals usually tied to the reward system. The study recommended that: the local government should implement fair appraisal system to maintain employee’s job satisfaction and subsequently boost their productivity; feedback method of performance appraisal should be a pre-requisite for the Local Government as this will provide the supervisors to have discussion with employees about weakness, productivity standards and areas of improvement that enhances productivity and that performance appraisal should be related with adequate compensation andreward system that can bring out opportunity for promotion in order to engender employees commitment and the general productivity and improvement of Local Government service delivery at the grassroots.
